Monthly Information Release (MIR)
There is no statutory requirement for investment companies to release NAV per share data, or for the regular publication of gearing and portfolio spread details. The AIC believe that the regular publication of this information is important for shareholders of investment companies and therefore offer Members the opportunity to release information on a monthly basis, in a comparable and orderly manner within an industry agreed framework. This information is released through the MIR where Members voluntarily provide the AIC with month-end assets, prior charges and portfolio summary details.

Introduction of Net Gearing Data - 31 January 2010
The AIC is pleased to report the enhancement of gearing data within the Monthly Information Release (MIR). Previously, the publication has included a gearing figure that reflects the value of prior charges drawn down by a company with no adjustments for amounts held in cash/cash equivalents (gross gearing). In addition to publishing this gross gearing figure, the Monthly Information Release (MIR) will now show an additional gearing figure which takes cash/cash equivalents into account (net gearing). To incorporate the net gearing calculation, the portfolio spread headings have been expanded to include eight headings, separating out the cash/cash equivalents and fixed interest items. This change is reflected in the MIR.CSV and GEO.CSV files.
